LYRICS – WHAT’S THIS LIFE?

There’s a time when your soul wakes up
And looks to a single truth
It’s not God or love or any other word
It’s beyond words but clear as day

There are some that stop listening to their hearts
The message comes too late
And still others watch the clock tick by
And blame their lives on fate
But I’ll be damned if I’m gonna sit around
And give it up without a fight

CHORUS
What’s is missing from this life I’m living in?
I’ve followed a path where my heart has never been
What happened to my dreams?
I’d like to see them again
What’s this life I’m living in?

As I drift to a dreamless sleep
I hear the voice within
It cries “Wake up
Take that leap of faith and dare to dream again”

But I’ll be damned if I’m gonna sit around
And give up my dreams without a fight

CHORUS

New age bluegrass, is that a genre?

    Conrad,
You’re missing the lyrics credit on the song. I’m assuming writer means you wrote the music. You have me credited for lyrics on one of my other songs. BTW, how have you been?

Hi Melanie! Thanks for letting me know about that. I corrected this post so you are listed as co-writer on the lyrics.

I think about this song and “Winding Stream” from time to time. I just got back from vacation and had been hearing “What’s This Life” in my head. And it’s been 15 years since we recorded it!

I remember at the time of writing this I really felt this voice from inside to push me to do new bodacious things. I felt like I wasn’t doing enough. After recording this I did do so many incredible things in my musical life.

I feel that same push now. I think that’s why I’ve been hearing this song in my head. It’s my personal anthem to “Get up and do it!”

Was really great working with you on these songs. Hope all is well.
